Pretty much every faction of the Mortal Realms is known to take animal companions with them into battle, on crusades, or whenever they head out into the wilds in search of glory.
The realms’ skirmish specialists are particularly fond of a four- (or more) legged friend, and with a raft of new Warcry releases on the way this weekend, Warhammer Community has held a little competition to see who is Best in Show… and who would be better left at home.
We have split them into categories based roughly on their (assumed) species. And while they don’t strictly feature in Warcry, there is a special category named for one of the most-loved animals in recent Warhammer history so famous pets from Warhammer Age of Sigmar and Warhammer Underworlds can also get some recognition.
So, without further ado, the first category is:
Half human, half daemon-dog of Khorne, and very, very capable of threatening the judges. There’s no way the Hound of Wrath wasn’t going to win – we prefer our blood and skulls just where they are, thank you!
Not exactly a cute kitty, but it has jaws tough enough to crush steel – and a notoriously bloodthirsty temperament! Plus, we had to disqualify the Mindstealer Sphiranx for trying to influence the voting panel.
The warriors of the Old Ones know how to make an entrance – and if a band of rampaging skinks weren’t intimidating enough, weaponised seagulls will surely do the trick! It was also the only contender willing to wear a collar for the competition, which was pretty key to qualifying as a pet at all.
The Splintered Fang are experts in using their supply of toxins to overpower their foe, so it makes sense that they would slither into battle with a clutch of venomous danger noodles in tow. These serpentine sidekicks were also the only candidate that didn’t ruin the judges’ outfits – they’ll be clearing webs and ash out of their hair for days.
The Duinclaw Memorial Award
While these cute critters are not available to use in games of Warcry, it would be remiss of us to exclude them entirely. We have dedicated the award for the best animal accomplice from Warhammer Age of Sigmar and Warhammer Underworlds to the legacy crustacean from Elthain’s Soulraid – Duinclaw!
The Shortlist:
He’s a monkey holding a dagger in his tail. Need we say more?
